Thank you so much for your interest in my newborn photography!  I am so excited about the opportunity to work with you and capture this special time in your lives!

Newborn Photography – Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time for newborn portraits?

The best time to have a professional newborn session is within the first 5-14 days of life. This is when your baby is most curly, sleepy, and easiest to pose.  After two weeks of age, they tend to be more alert and easily disturbed while sleeping. The images you see in my portfolio are all taken no later than 14 days of life.

When should I schedule my session?

I recommend booking your session before or during your second trimester.  Booking early is best because I take a limited number of newborns each month.  I realize that some babies come early, some come on time, and others come late. Therefore, once you book, your due date acts as a placeholder for me.  Then, I ask that you contact me THE DAY your little one arrives.  This will ensure that we are able to schedule his/her session within the recommended time frame.

Where does the session take place?

My studio is located in my home in Whitsett.  Everything in my studio is controlled from the lighting to the temperature.

What about props?

My studio is full of gorgeous fabric backdrops, colorful wraps, headbands, bonnets, hats, baskets, buckets, and so much more!  Most of the props you see in my images I have available in my studio. When you book your session, you will fill out a questionnaire that gives me information about your style, favorite colors, and hobbies.  If you see something you like in my gallery of work, please be sure to mention it before your session.  I welcome you to bring anything that may be sentimental or other heirloom pieces.  However, I do not recommend knit baby outfits purchased in stores.  While they are cute, they usually do not photograph well.

What poses will you do during the session?

Every baby is different.  For example, some babies love to be snuggled up and others do not.  Some have very relaxed hands and others have clenched fists. Some poses require a very sleepy relaxed baby and others do not.  Therefore, I will attempt several poses but adjust as necessary for your little one.

What about family and siblings?

I will photograph parents with baby, the whole family, and siblings for an additional fee of $50.00.  I will take these images either at the beginning of the session (if a young sibling is included) or at the end of the session.  Please keep in mind that it is understandably difficult for toddlers to remain quiet and still while NEW baby is being photographed in a heated studio. For this reason, I require young siblings be photographed at the beginning of the session.  Someone will need to be available to take the young sibling once their part of the session is complete.  It is best to dress in neutral colors such as beige, white, or light pastel colors.  Keep it simple. Steer clear of logos and patterns.

What do I need to do to reserve my due date?

I require a deposit of $75.00 to reserve your due date on my calendar.  If you are ready to book, please visit the link below to access my questionnaire and pay your deposit by Paypal.  You can checkout as a guest if you do not have a Paypal account.  Please note, if you are less than 30 days from your due date, please check with me for availability prior to booking.

What to expect from me and other important information:

Photographing newborns is my passion.  My passion began after my son was born in 2008.  Since then I have photographed hundreds of newborn babies.  I am very detailed and spend time getting every little finger and toe positioned just right.  When you arrive at my studio, be prepared to sit back and enjoy the session. I will take over as soon as you arrive. I will undress baby and get him/her comfortable.  My studio is kept at 80 degrees to keep baby warm and happy.  So feel free to dress lightly or in layers.  Since your baby will be in his/her birthday suit for the majority of the session, there will be accidents. I’m used to it and fully expect it, so please don’t worry about it when it happens.

Once your baby arrives and we’ve scheduled your session, you will receive a detailed session planning guide to help you prepare for the day of the session.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
